2014 Broward County ADA Symposium Program

CIL Broward (CILB) staff and board members converged on the Broward Convention Center Friday, May 9th for the 2014 Broward County ADA Symposium.

This year’s program was split into two tracks:  Employment (Title I) and Accessibility (Title II).

CILB is very interested in employment and accessibility so we had representation in attendance for both program tracks.

The morning Title I presentations were conducted by Jack Humberg, M.A., C.R.C. who enlightened everyone on “The Basics to the ADA, Title I” during his first talk, then he shared some of his experience on “The Interactive Process and Employer Obligations” after a short morning break.

The morning Title II track was by Larry Schneider, AIA who started out with “The ABCs of ADA and FACBC, Advanced Course” and then followed up after the break with “The 7 Deadly Sins of the Fair Housing Act, Advanced Course.”

Lunch was broiled chicken on a bed of salad with cheesecake for dessert followed by Coach Howard Schnellenberger’s keynote address geared mainly toward raising community awareness of and local support for Florida Atlantic University.

The afternoon Title I track was “EEOC Latest Developments, Enforcement Activities, Hot Topics, etc.” by Malcolm Medley, Miami District Director, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.  The Title II track consisted of “What’s New with the ADA and DOJ Enforcement” by Jana Erickson, Deputy Chief, Civil Rights Division, Disability Rights Section, U.S. Department of Justice.

Both tracks were well attended and enlightening. CILB is grateful to Broward County for holding this symposium and already looking forward to next time.
