Ronald Pettit is the ADA & Access Compliance Consultant for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, and is responsible for providing the most accessible cruise vacation experiences on Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Cruises. He has over 25 years of experience in the travel and hospitality industry and 17 years of managing accessibility programs.
Pettit is responsible for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulatory compliance and accessible product development for Royal Caribbean’s three global brands – Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises, with a combined fleet of 32 ships.
He recently led the implementation efforts of new U.S. Department of Transportation and European Union passenger vessel accessibility regulations at Royal Caribbean. He works closely with the Newbuild team to help design accessible and innovative cruise ships including the upcoming Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas, as well as recent Oasis class and Solstice class ships. In 2007, he managed the accessibility program for a full-ship charter on Freedom of the Seas with over 3,800 deaf guests, including over 120 sign language interpreters and introduction of a new, customized visual/tactile alert stateroom kit.
Prior to becoming ADA & Access Compliance Consultant in 2013, Pettit was Access Manager. He managed the Access Department, a dedicated team of eight employees who coordinate and ensure that accommodations are arranged and delivered for guests with disabilities and other special needs. As a full service contact center, the Access Department responds to e-mails, faxes and telephone calls for over 82,000 guests with disabilities annually.
Pettit joined Royal Caribbean in 2006. Prior to joining Royal Caribbean in 2006, he spent 17 years at Northwest Airlines. At Northwest, he was responsible for improving the air travel experience for over 3.3 million annual customers with disabilities and ensuring compliance with the Air Carrier Access Act. His most important accomplishment was creation of an award-winning Customer Advisory Board on Disabilities which provided feedback on how to better serve the disability market. His efforts resulted in making Northwest Airlines a first choice option for people with disabilities.
Pettit received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Communication Arts and Sciences from Bridgewater State University, Bridgewater, MA. He is also hard of hearing, and wears two hearing aids.
